CERAMICS PAINTING

🌀 FAQ

How does it work?

You’ll be painting onto a bisque-fired ceramic piece — this is clay that’s been fired once and is ready to absorb glaze. We use underglaze paints, which soak into the surface like watercolour on paper. Once finished, we clear-glaze and fire your piece in a kiln to stoneware temperature. This seals it with a glassy, functional finish that’s food-safe, waterproof, and permanent.

What does the price include?

Your booking includes the ceramic piece you selected, all painting materials and tools, expert support on the day, and kiln firing to a finished stoneware surface.

When can I arrive?

Drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm. We recommend allowing around an hour to paint your piece. You’re welcome to stay longer, take your time, or book multiple items and make a day of it.

When can I use my ticket?

Your ticket is valid for any of our Winter Sessions — join us on the last Saturday of the month in June, July, or August.

What’s included?

Your booking includes a handmade ceramic item, all painting materials, brushes and tools, expert support, and kiln firing.

Do I need experience?

Not at all — this session is open to everyone, from total beginners to seasoned makers. Support is available throughout the day if you need help or guidance.

Is the workshop open to all ages?

Yes, this event is open to all ages, including little ones. Children just need to be supervised by an adult. Toddlers are very welcome too. With a guiding hand, even the youngest participants can help create something special to keep. We also have aprons in toddler sizes to help keep clothes clean while they paint.

What will we be painting with?

You’ll use specially formulated underglaze paints, applied with brushes. After firing, your piece will have a food-safe, water-resistant, permanent finish.

When do I get my finished piece?

Works will be ready to collect the following Saturday. You can:
Pick up from our nearby Paddington studio (location details provided after booking)
Collect at our next event at the Market Hall (last Saturday of the month)
Or have your piece posted — just let us know on the day

Who makes the pieces?

All of the ceramic items are handmade locally by us. Each piece is shaped, trimmed, and fired on site.

Will the item I pick look exactly like the photo?

Due to the handmade nature of each item, small variations in size and form are to be expected. These differences reflect the unique quality of the process.

What should I bring?

Nothing is required. Just wear something comfortable and bring any ideas or reference images you’d like to use.

Where is the studio located?

Our studio is a few minutes' walk from the market. If you choose to collect your piece there, we’ll share the exact location and pickup info after your session.

Do you run workshops anywhere else?

Right now, we only run our monthly sessions in Paddington. It’s close to our studio, where all the pieces are fired. We don’t currently offer workshops in other locations.

Do you offer private workshops or off-site sessions?

Yes, we occasionally run workshops for private events, team sessions, and other special events. If you have something in mind, get in touch and we’ll see what’s possible.

How can I contact you?

Feel free to email us or send a DM on Instagram — we’re happy to help!
